EuroScience Open Forum ESOF, created by EuroScience, is the largest pan-European general science meeting dedicated to scientific research and innovation. Next ESOF meeting, ESOF2016, will take place in Manchester on July 23th to 27th.
The HEIRRI project has launched its new blog to present the development of this Horizon2020 initiative which aims to integrate the concept of “Responsible Research and Innovation” (RRI) in the science and engineering degrees.
The blog features information about events and activities throughout HEIRRI, including news, press releases and relevant resources about Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). The new blog also links with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and, soon, Researchgate, and also offers a general view of current activities and ongoing projects related to RRI.
The next 25th of February from 18h to 20h, the Studies Centre on Science, Communication and Society of Pompeu Fabra University (SCS-UPF) will organize a workshop on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) as the final event to celebrate the ending of the NERRI Project (Neuro-enhancement: Responsible Research and Innovation). The event is open to the public and will take place at the Charles Darwin room of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). The workshop is structured to discover the different models of citizen participation in the framework of the experience with NERRI. The main results of the project will be analyzed, in particular, the opinions and attitudes of the European citizenship towards the research and application of techniques to increase cognitive capacities in healthy individuals (memory, calculus, concentration capacity, etc.).
From 11th January to 15th March 2016 you can participate at Il·lustraciència, an international award on scientific illustration organized by the Associació Catalana de Comunicació Científica (Catalan Association of Science Communication, ACCC) and sponsored by the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, FECYT).
Can participate at this call all work teams or individuals aged over 18 years old regardless of the country of residence and each participant is able to submit only a single work. The subject of the illustrations must be related to science or nature and the technique is free. The proposals shall enclose a 150-200 words description of it in Spanish, Catalan or English. The coming 14th and 15th of January, the HEIRRI project will be present at the conference “RRI shaping new horizons: Responsible Research and Innovation in Europe and across the World”. This event will take place in Brussels as the final joint conference of four main European projects: GREAT, ProGReSS, Res-Agora, and Responsibility. This four initiatives form the group called Go4 projects, funded under the FP7 SiS work programme 2011.
HEIRRI Coordinator, Gema Revuelta, and HEIRRI project manager, Núria Saladié, both from the Studies Center on Science, Communication and Society from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (SCS-UPF), will travel to Brussels to present the project during the poster session.
“Before their first words” is an educational website addressed to parents and educators to encourage communication and language development of children aged between 0 and 12 months. It is a multimedia science tool with a video gallery, practical tips, teaching materials, and even expert advice in the field.
The website is the result of the project Precursors of language, led by the scientific researchers Pilar Prieto, from Prosodic Studies Group of Universitat Pompeu Fabra (GrEP-UPF), and Laura Bosch, from the Attention, Perception and Language Acquisition Laboratory of Universitat de Barcelona (SALW-UB), together with the collaboration of Danielle Matthews, from University of Sheffield.
