The fourth Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) will be held from 2 to 7 July 2010 at the Lingotto in Torino, and for the first time ever in Italy. Students, young researchers and scientists, teachers and experts, journalists and politicians, science buffs and members of the public will meet at ESOF2010.

The aim of the forum is to explore the frontiers of scientific and technological research and to debate controversial topics and compare experiences. ESOF is an important event that is held every two years and is dedicated to scientific research and innovation and to their impact on society. It involves leading scientists and young researchers: the past and the present. One of the key objectives of ESOF2010 is to provide career openings and targeted programmes for postgraduates and young researchers. These young scientists, the future of research and social progress, will be the lifeblood of the Italian forum.

The event is organised locally by TopESOF – Torino per ESOF2010, an association whose members include Compagnia di San Paolo, Centro Interuniversitario Agorà Scienza and the non-profit body CentroScienza Onlus. The association is chaired by Professor Enrico Predazzi from the Department of Theoretical Physics at Turin University. The Steering Committee, the international committee responsible for supervising the event, includes leading figures from the world of science under the Honorary President Sir Harold Kroto, Nobel prizewinner for chemistry in 1996.

The idea was conceived by Euroscience, an association set up in 1997 and based in Strasbourg (France), which now numbers 2330 members from over 40 countries.
