Convocat el premi de comunicació científica Joan Lluís Vives

La Xarxa Vives d’Universitats, amb la col·laboració de la Càtedra de Divulgació Científica de la Universitat de València i el suport de la CAM , ha convocat la dotzena edició del Premi de comunicació científica Joan Lluís Vives, adreçat a estudiants amb tesi doctoral inscrita i sense defensar públicament a data 31 de desembre de 2010. Amb aquest guardó, es pretén fomentar les habilitats comunicatives dels estudiants de doctorat.

Per a participar en la present edició cal presentar un article periodístic en català de la mateixa temàtica que la tesi doctoral, el qual ha de tenir una extensió màxima de 15.000 caràcters (amb espais inclosos). Cada autor pot presentar un únic article original, inèdit i no premiat en altres concursos.

El termini per presentar els originals finalitza el 30 d’abril de 2011.

Poor science education impairs U.S. economy

A recent article by Dan Vergano published in USA Today sums the conclusions of the report “Rising above the gathering storm“.

Stagnant scientific education imperils U.S. economic leadership, says a report by leading business and science figures.  (…) the report updates a 2005 science education report that led to moves to double federal research funding. Nevertheless, the “Rising Above the Gathering Storm” review finds little improvement in U.S. elementary and secondary technical education since then.
