Video “We want to know your opinion on neuro-enhancement”

The video to promote the citizen debate on neuro-enhancement SuperMI is online. The debate has taken place at CosmoCaixa Barcelona on November the 13^th in which researchers, business representatives and experts on the field of sanitary law explained what neuro-enhancement is, its applications are its regulatory legislation. See the programme.

Before the event, we have walked around Barcelona to ask pedestrians on the topic. They may have never heard of the word “neuro-enhancement” but have their opinions clear on its uses and limitations, especially when applied on humans (children, adults, the elderly, healthy or sick people, etc). The video is in Spanish and Catalan language.

A public debate has been boosted at SuperMI. Audience members have been able to share their ideas and questions about the technologies addressed to enhance cognitive capacities of healthy people such as having more memory, being able to focus better or calculate faster.

SuperMI has been organized by Universitat Pompeu Fabra and CosmoCaixa (Obra Social “La Caixa”), on collaboration with Fundación Española para la Ciencia y Tecnología (FECYT) and has been developed through the NERRI project (Neuro-Enhancement Responsible Research and Innovation), which aims at guaranteeing that neuro-enhancement techniques are developed in accordance to the values and expectations of society. The project is funded by the 7^th Framework Programme and is coordinated in Spain by Gema Revuelta, professor at the Experimental and Health Sciences at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (CEXS-UPF) and Deputy Director of the Science Communication Observatory of the same university (OCC-UPF).
