The Medical Research Council (MRC) Unit in The Gambia has been carrying out internationally competitive research into tropical medicine for more than 60 years. To support MRC vision, they are seeking a Head of Communications to lead the development and implementation of a communications strategy and to enhance the Unit’s reputation and profile within The Gambia and the sub-region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a communications strategy with clear objectives
- Managing and delivering a suite of communication channels and events (Unit’s newsletter, Unit’s website, corporate events, internal communication, etc.)
Requirements and Experience:
- Degree in Communications, English, Management or other relevant subject(s)
- Experience in the communications field
- Passion for public engagement with science.
- Proven expertise in writing, editing and proof reading
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Deliver projects on time and on budget
- Excellent IT skills
Desirable Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Gambian current affairs, culture and health behaviour
- Good understanding of medical research and health issues
- Fluency in French and local language(s)
