The VIII Congress on Social Communication of Science (CCSC2021) is getting closer. On this occasion we bring you the preliminary program of the CCSC2021, where you can consult all the activities and start planning your own conference. We also take this opportunity to remind you that, although the tickets to attend the conference in person are already sold out, you can still register to attend online. This year the conference has been fully adapted so that you can participate from wherever you want.

If you have not made your reservation yet, you can do it through this link.

For this edition we have set no limits in the selection of guests. They will participate in round tables and talks where their knowledge and experience will be shared with us. We will have the chance to listen and talk with the winner of the 2021 Oscar for best documentary (the only science communicator in the world with an Oscar!), who will participate in the round table “Communication, planet… and action!” and in a special session in which she will speak with the audience about science documentaries. We will also count with the Head of Communications at IPCC, the Director of Public Health at WHO and some of the best science communicators and researchers in our country. With them we will discuss topics such as the climate emergency and its communication or, something unavoidable in a year like this, issues related to communication about covid-19.

In addition to the plenary sessions, the parallel sessions are the other great asset of this congress. Throughout three days you can participate in 28 sessions, including a total of 187 communications, which have been selected for their interest and quality. We will address topics such as the SDGs in communication, key issues in science communication and its Deadly Sins, inclusion and gender perspective, new trends in scientific museology and non-formal education, communication of innovation, training of future professionals and so on.

The main theme of this edition is “Communication and Planetary Wellbeing”, but beyond this, the purpose of CCSC2021 is to provide a platform to strengthen relationships between people working in science communication, to think on how to improve the quality of what we do and to make real commitments. In addition, the congress will update strategies and reflect on who our audiences, agents and goals are.

The CCSC2021 will be held at CosmoCaixa Barcelona from September 29 to October 1 and is co-organized by the Spanish Association of Science Communication (AECC), the Studies Center on Science, Communication and Society of the Pompeu Fabra University (CCS-UPF) and the “la Caixa” Foundation. The congress also counts with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) – Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Catalan Association of Scientific Communication (ACCC).
