The Pew Internet Project in collaboration with the California HealthCare Foundation have produced a report which shows the relevance of people’s networks when involving healthcare.

People turn to friends and family to look for some advice when they have a health problem.

Even thought health professionals are the main source of information this report explains how important online  networks are for people in these cases, specially under chronic and rare diseases and also shows that internet not only provides information but contact to each other. The survey shows that high blood pressure, diabetes, heart and lung conditions and cancer are important examples of chronic situations where peer-to-peer help is often asked.

The report is based on a national telephone survey and also on a online survey of member of the National Organization for Rare Disorders.
