The Pill and the media

The journal Gynaecology Forum devoted a special issue in December 2010 to commemorate the 50^th anniversary of the approval and release of the first oral contraceptive, also known as simply the Pill. One of the papers published in that issue is “The Pill in the media“, written by Joaquim Calaf-Alsina, of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, and Gema Revuelta and Mónica López-Ferrado, both of the Observatory of Science Communication, of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The paper tries to identify some of the most relevant ways in which the printed media has influenced the perception of society and choices of women about hormonal contraception.
